A new and important piece of plant was recently installed in the pump shaft machining department.
It is a new island, which contains a vertical lathe with 2 spindles, 3 tool posts, and two robots for material feed and removal.
By using three tools simultaneously, processing times can be notably reduced; in addition, robotisation for the component supply and removal operations allows the operator to concentrate on product quality on both this and the adjacent machines, which are designed with the same methodology.
Finally, using numeric control to directly manage the lathes means that extremely long shafts can be machined without problems, while having all the tools always mounted on the machine greatly shortens the preparation times between one component and the next.
