There are contexts in which concepts such as reliability and compliance with technical requirements take on an even deeper meaning. It is not simply a matter of meeting standards or specifications, but of ensuring safety conditions where no margin for error is allowed. This is the case with firefighting units, where every component must be designed to operate at all times, under any condition.

The fire protection landscape has undergone a profound evolution in recent decades. From a reactive approach, based on emergency response, there has been a gradual shift toward a more structured and integrated model, focused on prevention, continuous monitoring, and risk management. This paradigm shift has gone hand in hand with technological development and the strengthening of the regulatory framework.

Active protection remains of fundamental importance, and increasingly, solutions are required that can guarantee higher levels of reliability and operational continuity.

Calpeda has extensive experience in the field of firefighting pumping systems and serves this market segment efficiently thanks to a combination of technical expertise, production capacity, and a strong focus on customization. Moreover, with the recent expansion and upgrade of its Spanish subsidiary, the company now benefits from a strategic hub dedicated to the production of firefighting units, further strengthening its responsiveness in this application field. Today, Calpeda Iberica is able to assemble even large-scale units and continues to invest in the development of this product line through advanced infrastructure, such as a new test bench with a capacity of up to 1000 m³/h.

Compliance with fire protection regulations: an integrated approach

The regulatory framework is one of the most important aspects in the design, installation, and maintenance of firefighting units. Compliance with UNI EN 12845 allows us to meet the requirements of different European countries in terms of reliability, redundancy, and operational continuity. This is complemented by the criteria of the Spanish UNE 23500:2021 standard—whose distinctive feature is its systemic approach, covering both pumping systems and the technical rooms where they are installed—as well as the Italian standards UNI 11292 and UNI 10779. The overall goal is to ensure a highly reliable and effective product in all circumstances.

Range and configurations for complete coverage of requirements

Calpeda offers a wide range of solutions for supplying fixed sprinkler systems and hydrant networks. These range from small installations, typically equipped with 25 mm hose reels and a flow rate of 12 m³/h, to units for more complex applications, generally equipped with diesel engines, with flow rates up to 550 m³/h and pressures up to 10 bar.

One of the main strengths is the high flexibility in configurations, allowing adaptation to different requirements. This is made possible by strong customization capabilities and an OEM partnership approach that places the specific needs of each project at the center. Units can be supplied with all required power ratings, adapted to the available space in the technical room, and configured with connection points tailored to the system layout.

In this regard, at Sicur Madrid 2026, Calpeda Iberica presented a firefighting unit equipped with Victaulic® connections. This design choice offers clear operational advantages, directly addressing installers’ needs. Victaulic® connections are quick and secure, reducing installation time while ensuring maximum reliability. Furthermore, as this connection system is widely used in firefighting piping networks, integration of the unit is significantly simplified.

The heart of firefighting systems: N series pumps

At the core of Calpeda firefighting units are the N series pumps, end-suction centrifugal pumps compliant with EN 733.

In the version dedicated to this application, N pumps are equipped with packed gland sealing (TT), preferred for its reliability, and with bronze or stainless steel impellers for durability and corrosion resistance. In fire protection, performance requirements are also very strict: units are designed to ensure stable curves and performance up to 140% of the rated flow.

Reliability is ensured through rigorous testing and inspection procedures. Each pump is individually tested at the factory, while the assembled unit is tested at the Spanish hub with continuous operation at rated flow for 90 minutes. This double verification results in greater reliability and long-term operational safety.
